10 Movies That Just Got Delayed

The complexity of shooting and releasing even a modest, low-budget film is mind-boggling, and so it’s little surprise that things often take a little while longer than expected, resulting in delays.

This also often happens because, where blockbuster fare is concerned, studios may stake out a release date two or three years in advance, effectively planting their flag in the hope that other tentpole productions try and steer well clear of them.

But post-production complications – such as the necessity for reshoots, and unexpected industry strike action – can mean that a film just won’t be ready in time for the original planned date, and so there’s simply no choice but to push back.

And that’s exactly what happened with these 10 upcoming movies, all of which just announced a release delay.

A few are thankfully only moving back a few short months or even just a mere matter of weeks, but we’ll sadly be waiting much longer for some of these delayed movies.

Good things come to those who wait, or so it’s said, and we can only hope that it’s all worth it in the end…

When Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was released in June 2023, sequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was optimistically set to release less than a year later on March 29, 2024.

However, mere weeks after Across the Spider-Verse’s release, Sony decided to remove the sequel from their release calendar due to both the SAG-AFTRA strike holding up voice recording sessions and general production delays.

This past March, it was then given the more realistic date of June 4, 2027, but the release was given another small delay just recently, with Beyond the Spider-Verse now pencilled in for June 25, 2027 – some three weeks later than planned.

This was apparently due not to production issues but a desire to capitalise on American school-aged kids being on summer break by late June.

It’s hardly an egregious push-back, though it’s pretty wild that the film is releasing well over three years after its original announced release date – assuming this one actually sticks, of course.

Either way, considering the immense quality of the first two animated Spider-Verse movies, the filmmakers should take all the time they need.
