178 Rite Aid’s closing in New York State-pharmacy-common-council-syracuse-management

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Rite Aid has filed for bankruptcy, and its pharmacies will close across the county. In New York State, 178 stores will close. Some of these stores are located in Central New York, specifically in Syracuse.

This won’t be the first time Rite Aid has filed for bankruptcy. The first time was in 2023.

Syracuse Common Councilor Marty Nave believes the bankruptcy is due to poor management and shoplifting. Starting in 2007, Nave was a pharmaceutical manager at Rite Aid.

Residents have also expressed concern about this community transition.

“I’ve gotten calls about where we’re gonna get prescriptions,” Nave said. “It’s hurting.”

One resident, Keith McCoy, said residents in these areas rely on getting their prescriptions at these stores. The loss of one could inconvenience some, especially those without a vehicle.
