Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Civil Aviation held at Bharat Mandapam, emphasised the government’s goal of making air travel accessible, safe, and affordable for all. “Our aim is to ensure that air travel is within reach of the common man,” he said, stressing the importance of safety and affordability in the sector.

Adoption of the ‘Delhi Declaration’

During his address, PM Modi announced the adoption of the “Delhi Declaration,” a comprehensive roadmap aimed at elevating the Asia Pacific aviation sector. He praised the collaboration of member states, stating, “This declaration, along with our collective efforts and long-term experience, will significantly contribute to the sector’s progress.” The declaration is expected to boost regional connectivity, innovation, and sustainable growth in civil aviation.

Transformation of India’s aviation sector

Highlighting the rapid growth of India’s aviation industry, PM Modi noted that in the past decade, India has transformed from an aviation-exclusive country to an aviation-inclusive one. He underscored the success of initiatives like the Udaan scheme, which has allowed 14 million passengers, many from smaller cities, to experience air travel for the first time. “In the last 10 years, the number of airports in India has doubled, and Indian airlines have placed orders for over 1,200 new aircraft,” he added.

Asia Pacific’s role in aviation growth

PM Modi emphasised the potential of the Asia Pacific region, home to four billion people and a growing middle class, as a driving force for aviation sector development. He highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in fostering economic growth and innovation, stating that the Delhi Declaration will enhance regional connectivity and help share knowledge, expertise, and resources across countries.

Commitment to safety, sustainability, and cooperation

The Prime Minister concluded by expressing confidence that the Delhi Declaration would lead to tangible actions in the region, strengthening safety, security, and sustainability in the civil aviation sector. He affirmed India’s commitment to building a robust aviation network that will promote peace, prosperity, and innovation across the Asia Pacific region.
