Fast & Furious 11’s Returning Character Tease Brings Justice To The Franchise’s Most Underrated Movie

Fast and Furious 11 is set to be the biggest movie in the Fast franchise to date, with a potential returning character putting the focus back on a forgotten movie in the franchise. The Fast series of films first started way back in 2001, and since then, the films have undergone a transformation that has led them to becoming completely unrecognizable from the first movies, aside from the characters that appear.

While this has led to the Fast franchise becoming a multi-billion dollar behemoth, it’s also made some of the original movies so far removed that they can be forgotten. Thankfully, by bringing back legacy characters, the latest entries pay tribute to these early films, and Vin Diesel’s tease on Instagram hinted at yet another iconic character from 2 Fast 2 Furious making a return.

Fast & Furious’ Potential Suki Return Brings Justice For 2 Fast 2 Furious Over 20 Years Later

2 Fast 2 Furious Is Getting A Spotlight

With more than 20 years between 2 Fast 2 Furious, and the franchise’s evolution, the movie does seem to have very little relevance to the current events. However, Suki, played by Devon Aoki, returning could be set to change that. The movie largely followed Brian O’Connor, played by the late Paul Walker, and Roman Pearce as they go undercover to help bust a street-racing gang in Miami. The movie is also the only mainline film in the franchise which does not include Vin Diesel.

However, despite some of the major new cast members of the film returning to Fast sequels, including Tej and Roman, Suki has not returned to the series after 2 Fast 2 Furious. The actress, Devon Aoki, retired from acting in 2009 and has since then been focused on other projects and raising her four children, but it appears as though she may be back for Fast and Furious 11. This could be exactly what the franchise needs to really dig back deep into its roots, and ensure the movies don’t appear too disjointed over the course of the series.

Tej & Roman Are Some Of The Most Important Characters In Fast And Furious

This idea is backed up by two of the other returning characters who also appeared in 2 Fast 2 Furious being mainline stars in the latest movies. While Vin Diesel appears in most of the films, his absence in 2 Fast does create a kind of disconnect from the rest of the franchise. Fortunately, Tej, who played Suki’s boyfriend in the sequel, has been back in the franchise since Fast Five. He has become a staple part of the crew, and despite his history and breakup with Suki never being explored more fully, he remains a big part of the series that is due to reconnect with Suki.

Likewise, Roman has been back in the series since Fast Five, and considering his history with Brian, he slotted perfectly into the franchise as it leaned into the family first motif. Vin Diesel’s deep brotherly love for his late co-star appears to be a driving force in his continuing the franchise, and by bringing back characters who had other connections beyond his own within the movies, it helps to create those links even more powerfully.

2 Fast 2 Furious Was Retroactively Made Better By Fast & Furious’ Changes

2 Fast 2 Furious Is Underrated In The Franchise

While not every movie in the series has been a smash hit, they have all added to the larger picture of the franchise. Up to this point, 2 Fast 2 Furious was a contender for the least connected story, but it’s also because of more than just the lack of characters brought back from the film. It was also one of the last movies that was truly focused on the street racing and fast car aspects of the films. This was a pivotal element in the start of the series that has gradually faded as they transformed into superhero epics with heist plots.

2 Fast 2 Furious had a clear focus on the street racing side of things that, looking back, is now even more fun and engaging because of how far the films have come from that point. Seeing how the movies have changed, the actors who appear, and the stories that they involve, 2 Fast 2 Furious stands out as something that was special, and deeply underappreciated when it first came out. But, if Fast and Furious 11 can bring back Suki, maybe it can bring back street racing, and other core parts of the series that make it what it is.
