Morocco ranks 90th in 2024 UN e-government index, surpassing global average

Morocco has climbed 11 spots in the 2024 United Nations E-Government Development Index (EGDI), securing the 90th position out of 193 member states.

Morocco’s improved e-government services scored the country 0.6841, surpassing the global average of 0.6283 for advancements in digital transformation, particularly in the area of electronic government services.

Morocco’s jump in the rankings is due to its progress in making government services more accessible to its citizens through online platforms.

The report praised Morocco for its strong focus on improving both its digital infrastructure and human resources, two key areas that are essential for the success of e-government services.

The country has been developing a multi-pronged approach to boost its digital capabilities. This includes expanding internet access and integrating more technology into government institutions.

By offering more online services, Morocco aims to make it easier for people to access information and public services. The goal is to improve transparency, reduce corruption, and streamline government operations.

In the 2024 global report, the UN stressed the importance of e-government in countries across the world, noting a growing investment in digital government solutions.

These efforts are helping countries build stronger infrastructure and adopt advanced technologies.

While European countries continue to lead the way in e-government, regions such as Africa, including Morocco, are making notable progress.

In addition to Morocco, countries like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain were recognized for their advanced digital services in the Middle East.

However, the report also pointed out that there is still a gap between national and local e-government development in many countries.

The report stressed the need for more attention to local municipalities, which are often the first point of contact for citizens seeking public services.
