New Delhi: While many foreign visitors are captivated by India’s diverse culture, food, and rich heritage, YouTuber Benjamin Rich, known as Bald and Bankrupt, has stirred controversy with his recent remarks. In a video titled “I visited India so you don’t have to”, the vlogger criticized various aspects of India, labeling it as the “most frustrating place to travel.”

Rich’s video, which featured his visits to Kolkata and New Delhi, began with a rickshaw ride through Delhi’s bustling Paharganj area. He said, “Not much has changed in the past six years, especially the traffic.” While acknowledging the friendliness of Indian people, he expressed his dissatisfaction with issues like potholes, waterlogged streets and incessant honking. His stark critique led him to warn viewers against attempting a similar trip unless they were “professional travelers.”
The video quickly went viral, sparking backlash from netizens who accused Rich of focusing only on the negatives. One user commented, “It’s crazy that people whose religion and culture are tied to the beauty of the land disrespect and defile it so much.” Another criticized his approach, saying, “Showing the worst of India in order to get the most anti-India engagement? It’s funny how this guy went from milking views from Indians to now catering to the best India haters.”

Others pointed out the apparent contrast between his earlier videos, which portrayed India more favourably, and his current content. “He deliberately went to the worst areas, trying to paint India as a failed state. That doesn’t seem right,” a user remarked.
Meanwhile, several other people agreed with him and said that his video has encouraged them to not visit India. Have you watched the video? What do you think about it?
