Top 5 SUVs Under Rs 15 Lakh in India: Tata Punch, Hyundai Creta and More

Tata Punch
The Tata Punch is a compact SUV that is well-known for its unique design, practicality, affordability, and multiple powertrain options. The Punch’s ICE form starts at Rs 6.12 lakh, while the electric version costs Rs 9.99 lakh. In contrast, the CNG model starts at Rs 7.23 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.

The SUV is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine known as the Revotron, which produces 86.63bhp at 6,000rpm and 115Nm at 3,250rpm. It is available with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission. In CNG mode, the same mill produces 72bhp and 103Nm, mated to only a 5-speed manual transmission. On the other hand, the electrified Punch has two battery packs (25kWh and 35kWh).
Maruti Suzuki Brezza
The Brezza, which sold 19,190 units in August and represented a YoY growth of more than 32%, is the second model on the list. It has a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 101.5bhp and 137Nm and is mated to a five-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. A CNG powertrain, with performance figures of 86.7bhp and 121.5Nm, respectively is also available. There are four core variants of the Brezza: LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+. The price of the SUV starts at Rs 8.34 lakh (ex-showroom).
Tata Curvv
In the automotive industry, the recently launched Tata Curvv has generated a buzz with its notable features and coupe-like silhouette. The SUV Coupe comes in two versions: ICE and electric. The ICE variant retails for Rs 10 lakh, while the electric variant costs Rs 17.49 lakh. These are the starting and ex-showroom prices. In August’s compact SUV sales, the Curvv was the fifth best-selling car, with 3,455 units.
Mechanically, the EV version features two battery options (45kWh and 55kWh) and a liquid-cooled Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMS). The ICE model, on the other hand, is available with three engine options (1.5-litre diesel, 1.2-litre direct injection turbocharged petrol, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol).
Hyundai Creta
In August 2024, the Hyundai Creta was one of the top-selling compact SUVs in India. The model’s bold appearance, variety of engine options, and well-equipped interior make it a popular choice for both first-time buyers and those wishing to upgrade to a new vehicle. It comes with three engine options: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel, and a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol. The Transmission options include a 6-speed MT, 6-speed AT, iMT, CVT (iVT), and a 7-speed DCT. The Creta SUV comes in seven primary variants (E, EX, S, S (O), SX, SX Tech, and SX (O), and is priced at Rs 11 lakh (starting, ex-showroom).

Mahindra Scorpio/N
In the SUV market, the Scorpio is a reliable option with excellent conveniences, performance, and capabilities. It appeals to people seeking a tough, dependable, and capacious SUV capable of handling both city driving and off-road endeavours. In August, the Scorpio was the fourth best-selling SUV, with 13,787 units sold. The Scorpio-N comes with two engine options (a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel), but the Scorpio Classic only has one 2.2-litre diesel engine. The former costs Rs 13.85 lakh, while the latter is priced at Rs 13.62 lakh. Both are starting and ex-showroom figures.
