Donn Aaron Mixon Releases New Autobiographical Single and Music Video

Donn Aaron Mixon, celebrated for his evocative storytelling, has released the music video for his latest single “Coal Miner & Little Boy Blue.” The track, notable for its nostalgic themes, serves as an introduction to Mixon’s forthcoming double album, set to be released on October 25.

“Coal Miner & Little Boy Blue” draws deeply from Mixon’s childhood recollections, capturing the essence of his formative years. The song is reflective of his experiences and memories that are foundational to his identity as a musician and songwriter.

In a discussion about the song, Mixon remarked, “It’s an autobiographical song about talking to my damn dad on the CB radio every night when he was driving home from working at the Monsanto plant in his Plymouth Fury III. The song deals with the wonder and excitement of our early years together and the regret of lost time between a stubborn father and son. The Coal Miner was his CB handle and Little Boy Blue was mine.”

The upcoming album is titled “The Welcome Mat,” a homage to Mixon’s childhood home, a trailer court located in Pensacola, Florida known as ‘The Welcome Mat.’ This place holds significant emotional value for Mixon, inspiring the autobiographical nature of the album.

Mixon’s career has been characterized by extensive touring across the Southern United States, including a three-year stint with a Southern rock band following his departure from ‘The Welcome Mat.’ Mixon has crafted six albums prior to this as a primary songwriter, showcasing his creative versatility.

However, “The Welcome Mat” marks a new chapter for Mixon. “The Welcome Mat” is notably distinct as it is solely Mixon’s vision, with contributions only on recording from Skid Row drummer Ron Hammersmith and Russian violinist Maria G. The album promises a unique blend of Americana and Southern gothic blues rock, aiming to resonate with listeners and evoke their own cherished childhood memories.
