Cabinet Chairman Japarov and World Bank Group Chief Administrative Officer discuss Kambar-Ata-1 HPP project

AKIPRESS.COM – Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Japarov met with World Bank Managing Director and World Bank Group Chief Administrative Officer Wancai Zhang.

The main topic of discussion was cooperation in construction of the Kambar-Ata-1 hydropower plant, an important strategic project for Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia.

“Construction and operation of the Kambar-Ata-1 HPP will allow to generate electricity in winter, accumulate water in the Toktogul dam and use it in summer. This way we will ensure stable electricity supplies in winter time and will support agriculture in summer,” Akylbek Japarov said.

The World Bank expressed readiness to support Kyrgyzstan in implementation of the project and further cooperation in sustainable development and water resources.

The parties discussed possible ways of expansion of cooperation in other spheres, including social projects supporting human capacity building, vulnerable groups of population, development of infrastructure, agriculture and water supply.

Prospects of introduction of the latest technologies in energy sector were discussed among other issues.
