CIFIT provides a unique platform to forge new relationships with international partners– Beijing Review

The annual China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) is held in Xiamen, Fujian Province from September 8 to 11. “The event provides a unique platform for us to forge new relationships with international partners and deepen our outreach in China,” Ramy Jallad, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), told Beijing Review. Ras Al Khaimah, located near the northernmost point of the UAE, is one of the seven emirates of the country.

Organized by China’s Ministry of Commerce, the annual fair has become a key event for promoting international trade and investment. With the theme Investment Links the World, this year’s CIFIT aims to facilitate mutual investment between China and other countries and regions. Entrepreneurs from the UAE, China’s largest trade partner in the Arab region, have high expectations on the fair and opportunities brought about by China’s development.

“China’s economic prospects remain strong, and with its global trade strategy it finds a significant partner in the UAE,” Jallad said. This year is the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the UAE. “For over four decades, the bilateral relations between China and the UAE have grown stronger. The UAE plays a crucial role in re-exporting approximately 60 percent of [the] Chinese goods [it imports] to over 400 cities across the Middle East and North Africa,” Jallad added.

In Ras Al Khaimah, particularly in RAKEZ, there are over 200 Chinese companies, ranging from small and medium-sized enterprises to large manufacturing firms, according to Jallad. To attract more Chinese enterprises to the emirate, “we continuously engage with Chinese government bodies, Fortune 500 companies, and trade associations,” he said.

Attending the CIFIT is one of the main ways Ras Al Khaimah engages with China. At this year’s CIFIT, representatives from various entities in Ras Al Khaimah are demonstrating the comprehensive growth opportunities the emirate offers, said Jallad.

“The emirate offers a business-friendly ecosystem characterized by ease of doing business, which is crucial for fostering successful international expansions. We are extending an invitation to Chinese companies to explore the host of opportunities that the emirate offers,” Jallad said.

Jallad’s team are particularly focused on introducing visitors to the vast opportunities available at RAKEZ. “We showcase how RAKEZ cultivates an environment that welcomes and accelerates the success and expansion of every business joining us. Through tailored services and a supportive ecosystem, we ensure that businesses can thrive and expand efficiently,” Jallad said.

“We aim to showcase our readiness and enthusiasm for more collaborative ventures, ensuring that Ras Al Khaimah continues to be a top consideration for Chinese enterprises looking for global expansion avenues,” he added.

In addition, the emirate aims to promote sustainable and inclusive development at this year’s fair. “Ras Al Khaimah is deeply committed to sustainability and education, recognizing the importance of empowering future generations as a fundamental aspect of our growth,” Jallad told Beijing Review.

Jallad is optimistic about the prospect of mutual economic cooperation between the UAE and China. “Given China’s stature as a foreign trade and export powerhouse, our collaborative efforts are set to enhance economic prospects for both countries,” Jallad said.
