Kachin merchants call for fair trade with China
Kachin State Chambers of Commerce and Industry has called on the Ministry of Commerce to create a fair trade condition between Myanmar and China.
On October 5, the Union commerce minister met with lawmakers and merchants at the Kachin State government office.
Paw Oo, President of Kachin State Chambers of Commerce and Industry said: “The main point I discussed at the meeting is the imports of products ranging from vegetables to machines to Myanmar legally or illegally. Myanmar cannot export even a pineapple. The government should make the G-to-G discussion if both sides cannot solve the problem on the ground.”
The Union Minister said China can scrutinize all export and import products with the use of technology. Myanmar is weak in scrutinizing them. The two countries are discussing the exports of home-grown crops from Kachin to China. In addition, efforts are being made to implement Nantkyin economic zone and Kanpiketi border trade zone as quickly as possible.
Kachin merchants called on the officials to open a brokerage center so as to ensure the systematic and swift flow of commodities in Myitkyina.
Kachin State Chief Minister said coordination is being made to swiftly implement it at a suitable place.
Kachin State Chief Minister also said that the state government has submitted a plan for the entry of tourist via Kanpiketi and Lweje border gates, to the Union Ministry since the previous two years. It depends on the situations in both countries and peace process.
