Perdue, Courtland win district golf title

Co-medalist Landon Perdue led Courtland to the Battlefield District golf team championship on Monday at Mattaponi Springs in Caroline County.

Perdue and King George’s Zack Hough tied for the low individual round at 1-over-par 73. The Cougars topped runner-up Culpeper by 13 strokes in the team competition as Lucas Ogden (77) and Ethan Hughes (78) also broke 80. 

Next up are the Region 3B competition Wednesday at Greene Hills Golf Course and the Region 4B tournament Oct. 1-2 at The Hollows in Montpelier. 

Courtland (316): Landon Perdue 73, Lucas Ogden 77, Ethan Hughes 78, Grant Wingert 88.

Culpeper (329): Tommy Stallings 75, Matthew Amos 82, Quinn Frazier 82, Brett Richardson 90.

FIELD HOCKEY

James Monroe 2, Riverbend 1 (OT): Mary Clare Hart scored in overtime to give homestanding James Monroe a nondistrict win.

Josie LeDoux notched the Yellow Jackets other goal.

Briana Schoenberger scored and goalie Leah Maliszewski registered 17 saves for Riverbend (4-5, 2-3). The defensive effort was led by Kyndra Peyton and Cambrie Eastman for the Bears, who host Massaponax on Tuesday.
