“One Of The Best” Horror Movies Of 2024 According To Stephen King Is Releasing On Streaming Soon

Stephen King calls out an upcoming horror movie as stellar. King is a prolific author within the horror genre, whose works have been developed into countless iconic films, including Carrie, The Shining, and It. Another King adaptation is coming soon with the Mike Flanagan-directed movie The Life of Chuck. One of King’s more genre-bending works, The Life of Chuck has gotten great reviews thus far and won the coveted audience award at the Toronto Independent Film Festival earlier this month. In addition to this film, other King adaptations in the works include The Long Walk and The Running Man.

Now, King takes to social media to sing the praises of an upcoming horror movie.

This movie is The Rule of Jenny Pen. In his review, King referred to the film as “one of the best movies [he’s] seen this year.” He encouraged fans, in fact “urge[d]” them to watch The Rule of Jenny Pen when it is set to appear on Shudder. Providing some details about the film, King noted “Geoffrey Rush stars, with John Lithgow as a geriatric psychopath with an evil hand puppet.

What Stephen King’s Review Says About The Rule of Jenny Pen

King’s Review Will Help The Rule of Jenny Pen

The Rule of Jenny Pen is a mystery horror film directed by James Ashcroft. Its plot focuses on a former judge who is confined to a rest home after suffering a stroke. The judge has to save the day in order to stop a psychopath in the home that uses a puppet in order to abuse the residents, in torture that often has deadly consequences. The Rule of Jenny Pen features John Lithgow and Geoffrey Rush as the two main actors, with a supporting cast that includes Nathaniel Lees, Thomas Sainsbury, Maaka Pohatu, Bruce Phillips, and Ian Mune.

Receiving this level of praise from King is an honor for The Rule of Jenny Pen, and will likely help it gain traction. As implied by King’s comment about Shudder, there was no theatrical release plan for The Rule of Jenny Pen previously. The film premiered at Fantastic Fest earlier this month, but general audiences have not yet been given the chance to see it. Hopefully, the film will be made available on Shudder sooner rather than later for audiences to watch.

The Rule of Jenny Pen Continues John Lithgow’s Exciting Year

Lithgow Is Making A Career Resurgance

John Lithgow listens intently in The Old Man

Looking at the details of The Rule of Jenny Pen, I find one of the most exciting elements to be the performance by Lithgow. The septuagenarian actor has had somewhat of a career resurgence this year, playing roles in Cabrini, Conclave, and The Old Man season 2. Both The Old Man and The Rule of Jenny Pen see Lithgow’s age as a key factor to his character, showing how the actor is specifically leaning into his aging status as a part of his new career. His horror spin in The Rule of Jenny Pen is one that I’m excited to see next.
