After a rocky few years post-Covid, Phuket is poised to smash its highest-ever revenue records in 2024, even if tourist numbers don’t quite hit pre-pandemic levels. Longer stays, higher spending and a shift in visitor profiles are key to this tourism boom, according to Rangsiman Kingkaew, Vice President of Strategy and Planning at the Phuket Tourist Association (PTA).

Speaking at a press conference led by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat, Rangsiman outlined the private sector’s ambitious strategy to drive tourism back to its peak.

“Tourists are spending more due to longer stays and higher daily expenses, particularly remote workers.”

Rangsiman pointed to last year’s impressive numbers: 11.3 million tourists and a staggering 388 billion baht in revenue.

Phuket’s tourism renaissance doesn’t stop there. The PTA vice president shared key strategies to retain major markets like China, Russia, the UK, and Australia, while tapping into new ones such as India and the Middle East. The private sector plans to boost these efforts with trade shows and roadshows across the globe.

On top of this, domestic tourism will play a key role in sustaining growth, ensuring Phuket’s future is brighter than ever. Local businesses and government bodies are encouraged to get involved, submitting event details to help promote Phuket as a year-round destination.

Phakawadi Muangmoon from the Phuket Provincial Office of Tourism and Sports announced the release of a 2025 tourism calendar featuring 33 events, reported Phuket News.

“This tool will help tourists plan their visits more easily and boost local events.”

In related news, Phuket’s sustainable tourism took centre stage on September 15, as the House of Representatives Tourism Committee held a seminar to explore new directions for the island’s tourism sector and delve into the creative economy.

The event, Transforming Phuket’s Future, was held at Dara Hotel and saw participation from significant figures in government, the private sector, and civil society.
