This County is Home to Horror Movie Inspiration
Normally when you hear of movies being filmed you think of Hollywood, but there’s one county in Kentucky where two horror movies have been filmed.
Just south of Paducah, Kentucky sits a county that has such eerie haunted attractions that it has inspired two horror movies to be filmed there. The county is appropriately named Graves County, and even though it’s just a coincidence, I think the spooky name of Graves County adds to the lore a little bit.
Graves County is also home to Mayfield, Kentucky, and is known for having small-town charm, while not being too far from larger cities.
Graves County has a rich history and strong commitment to its future development. The future looks bright. The beauty of this county is shown in the buildings from the past and the future new buildings. Come visit us and get to know how wonderful it is to live in a community where you know your neighbor. Graves County has the small town charm, but is close enough to larger cities.
Talk about a weird county (in the best way), Graves County is home to unique places like Fancy Farm Vineyard and Winery and the Barn Quilt Trail. It’s also home to the largest corn maze in the state of Kentucky, and a spooky monument in a cemetery that has garnered attention from Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Graves County is also the place where two different horror movies have been filmed in the last decade.
Here’s what Mayfield and Graves Tourism has to say about Haunted Graves:
Mayfield & Graves County also is host to A-Maize-ing Farms, the largest corn maize in Kentucky, as well as terrifying places like Talon Falls Adventure Park in Melber and the Industrial Slaughterhouse in Fancy Farm (all three open every weekend during the month of October). When your name is Graves County and you’ve been home to the filming of not one, but two horror movies, you know you’ve got something spooky going on…thus, the creation of Haunted Graves.
So what two horror movies were inspired by and filmed in Graves County? Let’s dive in!
The first of the two horror movies that were filmed in Graves County, is Talon Falls. Talon Falls was released in 2017 and is actually based on the Talon Falls Screampark which takes place every October in Melber, Kentucky.
Here is what Talon Falls’ IMDB page says about the plot of the movie:
Four teenagers take a road trip to a Halloween scream park. Each one of them is captured and made part of the horrific attraction that they originally thought was fun and games.
The second horror movie to be filmed in Graves County is Star Light. Star Light was released in 2020 and was filmed in Mayfield, Kentucky in 2017. Here is what Star Light’s IMDB page says about the plot:
A teen’s life is turned upside down when he helps a world-famous pop star on the run to escape her violent pursuers.
Star Light also has ties to quite a big name in horror as it boasts “from the Executive Producer of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” across the top of the movie poster, which is pretty cool!
