KATHMANDU, Sept 26: Nepal’s Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana met with Jean-Pierre Lacroix, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, in New York. During the meeting, Minister Rana highlighted Nepal’s long-standing contribution to UN peacekeeping missions and emphasized the need for Nepali officers to hold higher positions within these missions.

She urged the UN to recognize Nepal’s significant role in maintaining peace in conflict zones by appointing a Nepali military officer to a senior post.

In a separate meeting with Rabab Fatima, UN High Representative for Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Minister Rana discussed shared concerns, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate change action. As the chair of the global coordination bureau for LDCs, Nepal is positioned to champion the collective interests of these nations.

Additionally, on the sidelines of the 79th UN General Assembly, Minister Rana signed an agreement with Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić, granting visa exemptions for diplomatic and official passport holders from both countries.

Earlier, Minister Rana met with Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to discuss strengthening diplomatic relations, which were established between Nepal and Spain in 1968.
