Samara Weaving’s Iconic Horror Film Gets New Streaming Home

Samara Weaving is an established scream queen after her appearance in several films in the genre. However, Ready or Not certified her status and brought her critical acclaim.

Ready or Not hit theaters on Aug. 21, 2019, and received critical acclaim, as well as becoming a commercial success. It boasts a Certified Fresh 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and grossed $56.7 million against a $6 million budget, becoming a real box office hit. The horror, which was released by Fox Searchlight Pictures, is now moving to a different streaming home. Ready or Not will officially release on Hulu on Oct. 1, 2024, alongside other popular titles including M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening, Birdman, and Barbarian.

Ready Or Not comes from director duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Abigail, Scream, Scream VI), with Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy penning the script. Aside from Weaving, the horror stars Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, Elyse Levesque, Nicky Guadagni, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell.

The horror movie follows a young bride, whose wedding night is far from traditional. Instead, her new husband brought her to his wealthy family for a peculiar game night that turns out to be a ritual to worship the Devil, with high stakes for the family if they don’t sacrifice her.

Samara Weaving has appeared in many genres but it’s horror where she truly shines. She starred in 2017’s Mayhem and The Babysitter, before leading Ready or Not. She reprised her role as Bree in 2020’s The Babysitter: Killer Queen, and continued her horror trend with 2023’s Scream VI and 2024’s Azael.

Ready or Not Will Get a Sequel

The plot of Ready or Not, following a family game night that actually turns out to be a ritual to worship the devil, has endless potential for spinoffs, sequels, or, as the film’s beginning proves, a prequel. In March 2024, it was reported that a sequel was in development with Adam Robitel as director. In September, Weaving officially confirmed she is “all in” to return to the film.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, the actress confirmed “I think we’re all in, I don’t know. I think we’re all in,” teasing that the rest of the cast might be game for the sequel, as well. However, it’s unclear how the rest of the cast would return, as Grace was the sole survivor at the end of Ready or Not. However, the supernatural side of the horror could easily explain how the Le Domas family is back to cause more evil. Weaving noted she need to “make some calls” to find out when production will kick off.

So far, rumors are Radio Silence directing team Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are not tied to return to direct the sequel, but they shared their enthusiasm over the sequel in April when promoting Abigail, calling it a “f—ing banger of a sequel,” noting that they are proud of the original and what the idea for the sequel. However, there has been no confirmation about who would helm the film.

Ready or Not 2 doesn’t have a release date, but the original will be available to stream on Hulu starting Oct. 1.
