Warner Music inks deal with Connyct

Connyct, exclusively for college students (.edu required), claims to foster connection and coordination by allowing users to create content, plan events, and blend online interactions with real-world activities. The partnership is expected to boost content creation at launch.

“We created Connyct to spark joy and excitement around real-life experiences, a digital reflection of your favourite times,” Connyct co-founder and CEO Matthew Berman said. “We’re all about connection and discovery, meant to help users find people who share the same passions and want to publicise events to enjoy them with their friends. Our partnership with WMG takes this vision to the next level, allowing students to soundtrack their college experiences with an incredible array of music.”

Connyct chairman and founder David Polinsky added that the platform “champions user rights, safety, privacy, transparency and fosters authentic engagement.”

On her part, WMG vice president of digital strategy and business development Rachel Scarpati said: “Music is the heartbeat of the college experience, and Warner Music Group is committed to ensuring that our artists’ music is available wherever their fans are. Connyct has created an innovative platform that amplifies this connection, offering students a space to integrate music into their social lives. We’re excited to see how this partnership will bring music and community together in a whole new way.”

Meanwhile, WMG last month announced a new structure for its Recorded Music operations, appointing industry veteran Simon Robson to oversee Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

On the continent, WMG has invested in businesses like Ziiki Media, Chocolate City, and Africori through Warner Music Africa (WMA), powering the global success of artists such as CKay, whose hit ‘Love Nwantiti’ has gone eight times platinum in the US, and Rema, whose ‘Calm Down’ remix crossed a billion streams on Spotify last year. WMA also recently partnered with Nigerian singer-songwriter Joeboy, South African amapiano producer and DJ Yumbs, and Ghanaian label Small World Records.
