Boosting Sabah’s profile through sports and adventure tourism

Liew said her Ministry is committed to supporting Xplore Sabah and other related initiatives.

Kota Kinabalu: Sports and adventure tourism have the potential to diversify Sabah’s tourism landscape significantly, said Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew.
Liew said initiatives like Xplore Sabah could generate substantial economic benefits for the State.

“By attracting a new demographic of travellers seeking active and engaging experiences, we can further enhance Sabah’s reputation as a premier destination for visitors from around the world,” she said.
“This will have a positive long-term impact on our State’s economy as we continue to position Sabah as a leading destination in this sector,” she said during a press conference promoting Xplore Sabah at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Friday.
Xplore Sabah will debut on October 11-13 and feature vendors offering products and services related to sports, outdoor adventure, travel, tourism, fitness, and wellness.
The event also includes the participation of local and international schools in developing sports and games programmes for Sabah’s youth.

“These programmes not only promote health and fitness but also create opportunities for future athletes and help foster a vibrant sports culture within our communities,” she said in her speech, delivered by the Ministry’s Deputy Permanent Secretary Mary Malangking.
Liew said her Ministry is committed to supporting Xplore Sabah and other related initiatives.

During the press conference, Xplore Sabah signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with six key partners: Padang Kontena, Kota Kinabalu Basketball Association (KKBA), Waterfly Borneo, Kinabalu International School (KIS), Association of International Malaysian Schools (AIMS) and Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KKCCCI).
The MoU aims to establish a strategic framework for collaboration between the organisers and partners to host sporting events under the Xplore Sabah’s umbrella.
The signing event was witnessed by Mary, Chairlady of the Malaysian Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (MACEOS) Sabah Chapter cum Chief Executive Officer of SICC Datuk Dr. Rosmawati Lasuki and Chief Executive Officer of Sabah Convention Bureau Noredah Othman.
