World Tourism Day 2024: Tripura signs Rs 692 crore MoU to boost tourism with ropeway projects – Infrastructure News

The Tripura government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth Rs 692 crore to enhance tourism infrastructure, focusing on constructing ropeways, announced Chief Minister Manik Saha on the occasion of World Tourism Day 2024. 

The MoU was signed between the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation Limited and National Highways Logistics Management Limited. It involves the construction of ropeways connecting key tourist sites such as Udaipur Railway Station to Matabari, Maharani to Chabimura, Surmachara, and Jampui Hills. The project aims to improve connectivity and boost tourism in the region.

Highlighting the importance of tourism, CM Saha stated that it is a crucial sector for economic growth in both Tripura and India. He emphasised the state’s rich natural and cultural heritage, with significant religious tourism destinations including Tripura Sundari Temple, Kasba Kalibari, Fourteenth Goddess Temple, Mangalchandi Temple in Amarpur, and Mahamuni Pagoda. Additionally, the government is working on enhancing key sites like Matabari in Udaipur and making Narkelkunja and Dumbur more appealing to tourists.

Saha also mentioned that the state’s tourism infrastructure is being developed through various central government schemes. He pointed out that 41 modern log huts have been built at different tourist centres, further improving accommodation options for visitors.

Under the Swadesh Darshan 1.0 project, several tourist destinations, including Agartala, Sepahijala, Melaghar, Udaipur, Amarpur, and Neermahal, have undergone infrastructure upgrades. The Chief Minister added that development projects are underway for Chabimura, the Sonamukhi area in Kailashahar, the Chaturdash Devata Temple, and Kasba Kali Temple, funded by the Asian Development Bank, with Rs 180 crore allocated for these projects.

The event was attended by Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, Secretary of the Tourism Department TK Debnath, and TTDC Managing Director Prashant Badal Negi.
