Alstom hands over first of 52 trainsets for the Delhi Metro

On Monday, 23 September, at its world-class manufacturing facility in Sricity in Andhra Pradesh, India, Alstom handed over the first of an order for 52 trainsets to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

The order for 52 train sets, each consisting of six cars, was awarded to Alstom in November 2022, and the start of production was marked by a commemorative ceremony last February.

The new trainsets are for use on three different lines of the Delhi Metro.

Two lines are extensions to the existing Lines 7 and 8, and the third is the new 64.67 km-long Gold Line 10 between Aerocity and Tughlakabad.

The total project has a value of €312 million, which also includes 15 years maintenance of 13 trainsets on the new Line 10. This is the first time that Delhi Metro has outsourced maintenance to an OEM.

The new trainsets come under the ‘Make in India’ and Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives, having been completely designed in India and are being built at a manufacturing facility in Sri City in Andhra Pradesh.

The new trainsets are entirely made in India trains and incorporate GOA 4 driverless features. They are designed for operation at of up to 85 kmph and a safe maximum speed of 95 kmph.

In 2022, Alstom was awarded a contract by Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited to supply 52 new trains for the Bhopal and Indore metro projects in India.

Alstom also has a contract to design, manufacture, supply, install, test, and commission train-control and signalling systems for several lines on the Delhi Metro
