Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust to Host Music in the Woods
Are you looking to enjoy an afternoon of music while getting a little exercise along the way? The Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust has just the ticket.
The DNRT presents “The Evergreen Grove Sessions” on Sunday, October 6 from 1 p.m.to 4 p.m. in the Gidley Woods.
DNRT’s Outreach and Development Specialist Kendra Parker and local musician Dave Alves stopped by Townsquare Sunday to fill us in.
Alves is a Dartmouth native who now lives in Providence. He came up with the idea last year for music in the woods, approached the DNRT, and the nonprofit was receptive.
“My goal was to create a beautiful afternoon of music for people, as they came upon it in the woods,” he said.
Alves will be joined by four other musicians on October 6: Mary McAvoy, Beth Barron, Sean Martin and Lily Rhodes.
Getting to the performance site, however, will require a three-quarters of a mile walk from the DNRT-Paskamansett Woods trail head on Chase Road (near 21 Chase Road), through the Gidley Woods to the site. Those attending are urged to bring a blanket or folding chairs and a picnic lunch.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance on the DNRT website or on the day of the performance at the Paskamansett Woods trail head.
Since 1971, the Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust has helped protect more than 5,500 acres of land and maintain more than 41 miles of hiking trails. The organization has more than 200 volunteers and more than 1,400 members.
“We’re always busy,” Parker said. “Our big project now is to open a new reserve, hopefully in 2025. We’re acquired a cranberry bog in North Dartmouth, and we’re going to be having a trail system out there. Also, we have lots of walks and events coming up over the next few months.” Details are available at dnrt.org.
