Jaguar Land Rover: In a major development, the Tata Motors has kick started its new plant in Tamil Nadu. In addition to Tata vehicles, the next generation of Jaguar Land Rover cars will also be manufactured in the plant. It is important to note that these cars will be exported to other countries as well.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin, N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors and other dignitaries. This plant is located in Panapakkam in the Ranipet district and is expected to create around 5,000 jobs.
During the inauguration of the plant, N. Chandrasekaran said that the cars manufactured in the plant will be designed not only for the Indian market but also with foreign markets in mind. The plant will produce luxury and electric vehicles as well.
The Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors further added that approximately 5,000 direct and indirect jobs will be created. Tamil Nadu is a region where several Tata Group companies are successfully operating. “The state has all the facilities required for the automobile industry, ensuring a skilled workforce is available,” he said.
The plant will aim to provide as many jobs as possible for women. Tata Motors recently announced that JLR cars will be manufactured in India. This will be the first time that JLR cars will be produced outside of the UK.
Tata Motors will invest approximately ₹9,000 crore in its new plant. This plant will have an annual production capacity of about 250,000 vehicles. Production will be carried out in several phases. Tata Motors Chairman N. Chandrasekaran stated that they are optimistic about reaching this production level within 5 to 7 years.
Speaking on this occasion, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin remarked that the Tata Group has always contributed to manufacturing. Their longstanding relationship with Tamil Nadu is noteworthy. We welcome their new plant in Ranipet, and the state government will provide full support for its establishment.
