New Delhi: Starting October 1, major repairs will start on the Sarita Vihar flyover in Delhi, which will result in partial roadway closures. The Public Works Department (PWD) has announced plans to repair seven expansion joints, bearings and the flyover surface, which will impact the daily commute for many drivers.

Advisory for commuters

To assist with traffic management during this period, the Delhi Traffic Police have issued an advisory outlining alternative routes for commuters. Travellers moving from Ashram on Mathura Road toward Badarpur and Faridabad are advised to use Road Number 13-A from the Sarita Vihar flyover slip road and make a U-turn to re-enter Mathura Road.

For those heading from Ashram to Noida via Mathura Road, the DND flyway from Ashram Chowk is recommended. Apart from that, drivers coming from AIIMS, Moolchand, Lajpat Nagar and West Delhi, who are headed for Badarpur or Faridabad, should take Lala Lajpat Rai Marg/Outer Ring Road-Maa Anandmayee Marg and MB. Road to reach their destinations.

Social media alerts on repair work

To keep residents and commuters updated on expected disruptions, the traffic police are leveraging social media. They have communicated that the repair work will take place from October 1 to October 30, 2024, and have emphasised the need to adhere to alternate routes to minimise delays. The traffic department’s goal is to reduce inconvenience for the thousands of drivers who utilise this route daily.

The repair initiative highlights the challenges associated with maintaining critical infrastructure in a bustling city like Delhi. It also shows the efforts of local authorities to enhance road safety and functionality. By addressing the much-needed maintenance of the Sarita Vihar flyover, the PWD is taking huge steps to improve the commuting experience along one of the city’s primary traffic corridors. As the work progresses, public cooperation will be essential in following the traffic advisories. Such collaboration will help ensure that any disruptions are as brief and manageable as possible.
