A woman named Rona Wong took to X to share her friend’s experience at Microsoft. Wong stated that her friend, who worked at the firm, worked only for 15-20 hours per week and spent all other time playing online. She added that he made over Rs 2 crore ($300k).

The post grabbed the attention of many. Netizens shared stories of their friends who lived a similar live. “Many such cases. A friend works at a large food conglomerate, makes $280k and works 25 hours a week. Never misses a kid’s soccer game and plays video games. His stress comes quarterly to renegotiate one or two huge deals. The rest of the year is chill Sounds decent honestly,” said one netizen.
Many opined that the hours did not matter as long as the work was being completed. They also claimed that highly talented individuals are valued by the company and are paid for the outcomes achieved by them and not for the time they spend on projects.
While some called it their dream to work with firms of such a work culture, others were quick to talk about drawbacks such as unexpected layoffs.
