Tesla Is Working On A More Affordable Model 2: Will They Finally Come To India? | Auto News

Tesla is rumored to be working on a more affordable Model 2 which could be a viable option for the Indian market as well. Here is everything that you need to know.

Tesla is working on a more affordable compact crossover.

Tesla is one of the more successful EV brands around the world. They have taken the world by storm and their EVs are one of the best selling EVs across the globe. While currently Tesla somewhat targets only the premium segment of vehicles, there could possibly be a small, more affordable crossover soon.

The Tesla Model 3 has been arguably one of the most successful EVs in the world, but it still is quite an expensive vehicle. It goes against the likes of the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia EV6 and the lower segment of luxury cars as well like the BMW 3-Series and the Mercedes Benz C-Class. Tesla is now working on a more affordable sub $30,000 vehicle which is most likely going to be a compact SUV.

Tesla Model 2?

Tesla is working on a much smaller, much more affordable compact SUV, which could potentially be a game changer. The EV market is currently facing a slump in sales and the Model 2 could potentially be the car which people want, a more affordable EV which just works. This could also be a great move for the future of the company and also could open up even more markets for Tesla like India. A more affordable model would open up even more markets and Tesla could expect a spike in sales.

There are currently no details as to when this car will be launched let alone showcased. It is quite far off from full production phase it seems but it is coming.

We do think that smaller, much affordable EVs are definitely the answer to the EV revolution. Nobody is fooling everyone by driving a 3 ton truck to work everyday in order to save the environment so this Tesla Model 2 would definitely be the way to go for a lot of people.

What Happened To Tesla Coming To India?

Tesla has been trying to enter the Indian market for quite some time now but there has been a lot of back and forth with the Indian government which wants Tesla to set up shop in India by setting up a whole factory. India is still a growing market and while the love for EVs is growing between regular public, the market has a very tiny customer base for luxury EVs which would cost as much as a Tesla.

A more affordable model could be a viable option for the Indian market but there still lies a lot of complications in the success of these vehicles in the Indian market.
