How India Can Qualify For WTC Final After IND vs BAN 2nd Test 2024?
Team India, on Tuesday (October 1), bolstered their spot on the top of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points table after the thumping 7-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second Test at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
On the final day of the Test, India wrapped up Bangladesh’s second innings for 146 runs. Starting the day on 26/2, Bangladesh were on 91/3 at one stage before suffering an inexplicable collapse that reduced them to 94/7. A 37-run knock from veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim helped the visitors post 146 runs.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets each. Set a target of 95 runs, India crossed the finishing line in the 18th over by losing two wickets. After Rohit Sharma (8) and Shubman Gill (6) departed cheaply, Yashasvi Jaiswal (51) hit his second half-century of the game to power the home team to a comfortable win.
Earlier in the game, India set the platform for an unlikely win by becoming the fastest team to reach 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 in Tests. After no action took place on day two and three, the Rohit Sharma-led side bowled out Bangladesh for 233 runs on day four.
The hosts then went on to smash 285/9 (declared) in less than 35 overs to bolster their chances of winning the game. Earlier, India had won the opening Test of the series by 280 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The series win over Bangladesh has bolstered India’s chances of making it to the ICC WTC final for the third time in a row. At present, they are at the top of the ICC WTC Points table with a point percentage of 74.24. No other team has more than 70 percent at present.

India have 8 wins from 11 games and have 8 more games to play in the ongoing WTC cycle. They will play three Tests against New Zealand before traveling to Australia for the much-awaited 5-match series. Of the 8 Tests, India need to win 3 Tests to qualify for the WTC final.
At present, the cutoff to qualify for the WTC final is 58.5%. However, the teams that do not have any games against India or Australia, will have to finish with more than 60% to qualify for the final. India will be looking to win three more games to seal their spot in the final. In case, they fail to win three Tests, they will have to depend on other results.
