NEW DELHI, (REUTERS, ANI) – India said on October 2 it was “deeply concerned” by the escalating conflict in the middle east and urged for restraint and protection of civilians as Israel prepared to retaliate against a barrage of Iranian missile strikes.

“It is important that the conflict doesn’t take a wider regional dimension and we urge that all issues be addressed through dialogue and diplomacy,” India’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

New Delhi also advised its nationals to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi meanwhile wished Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah. He also greeted the people of Israel and the Jewish community across the world on their new year.

On social media he posted, “Best wishes on Rosh Hashanah to my friend PM @netanyahu, the people of Israel and the Jewish community across the world. May the new year bring peace, hope and good health in everyone’s life. Shana Tova!”
