BookMyShow filed an FIR against an unidentified individual for black marketing Coldplay concert tickets. The ticketing platform is investigating contact details and social media accounts suspected of involvement. MUMBAI: Ticketing platform BookMyShow on Wednesday lodged an FIR with Vile Parle police against an unidentified person for the alleged black marketing of Coldplay concert tickets at exorbitant rates. No arrests have been made yet.
The complainant provided contact numbers of 27 individuals, details of three Instagram account holders, and Viagogo.com, alleging their involvement in black marketing of tickets.Police are verifying details provided by BookMyShow.
The concert tickets for Coldplay’s concert scheduled for Jan 18, 19, and 21 next year at D Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, were allegedly sold at inflated prices through various websites and social media platforms. BookMyShow stated they are assessing the potential cancellation of tickets being sold unethically.
Last week, the city Economic Offence Wing (EOW) registered a preliminary enquiry into the complaint against BookMyShow and Live Nation submitted by advocate Amit Vyas who alleged the two logged out genuine fans from the portal and deployed bots to create an artificial digital queue, thereby orchestrating black marketing of tickets. EOW recorded the statement of Anil Makhija, COO of Big Tree Entertainment, parent company of BookMyShow and learned the ticketing platform had purchased 1.2 lakh tickets from Coldplay to resell for the concert. A BookMyShow spokesperson confirmed the filing of a formal FIR, following their initial written complaint on Sept 23.
The FIR, which TOI has accessed, stated BookMyShow had posted warnings on Instagram about potential fraudsters selling fake tickets. It also mentioned their server went down briefly on Sept 22 during the online booking opening. Later, they received a request from one Ashwin to provide a higher number of tickets, which they declined. Another person, Arjun Singh, told them about a WhatsApp group where tickets were being sold at exorbitant prices. BookMyShow emphasised they have no association with any unauthorised ticket selling or reselling platforms or individuals for the reselling Coldplay tickets. They are cooperating with police and EOW in their probe.
