Kamala Harris Announces $385 Million in Aid for Lebanon Humanitarian Crisis

WASHINGTON—Vice President Kamala Harris announced in a statement on Friday that the United States will provide nearly $157 million in additional humanitarian aid to Lebanon. The funding will address the growing needs of civilians affected by the country’s ongoing humanitarian crisis.

This comes just days after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said it does not have enough money to get through the hurricane season and after the Vice President announced $750 per person in aide for victims of Hurricane Helene.

The new assistance package will be allocated toward essential needs such as food, shelter, water, protection, and sanitation, according to Harris. The aid is intended to support those displaced by the recent conflict and other vulnerable populations across Lebanon.

This latest funding brings the total U.S. aid to Lebanon over the past year to more than $385 million, reflecting continued U.S. engagement in addressing the humanitarian challenges in the region.   HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. — Henderson County remains under a State of Emergency following the impact of Hurricane Helene, with officials amending the curfew to run from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., according to an update from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday.

  Resource Hub locations across the county will be open on Sunday, October 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., providing water and other supplies as they become available. The hubs are set up at six locations, including Etowah Elementary, Rugby Middle, and North Henderson High, among others.

  FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance crews are also in the area, helping residents apply for federal aid. The sheriff’s office emphasized that these crews wear official FEMA attire, carry federal identification, and do not ask for or accept money.

  Authorities cautioned the public against misinformation circulating online regarding the storm response. Residents are urged to rely on official sources such as the State Emergency Response Team and the National Weather Service for accurate updates. They also warned of AI-generated images being shared on social media that do not reflect current conditions.
