New Delhi: The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to start on February 19 next year with the final slated to be held on March 9. The marquee event will be played in Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi. While there is no confirmation of India’s participation in the showpiece event, reports suggest that their matches in the big ICC event will be moved out of Pakistan.
According to a report published in The Telegraph UK, India team, which has been reluctant in travelling to the neighbouring nation due to the political tensions between the two countries, will have their matches being shifted out of Pakistan, including the summit clash, if they qualify. The report published says that the match will be moved out of Lahore and instead held in Dubai.
March 6 final date of venue confirmation
The final of the ICC Champions Trophy is slated to take place on May 9 and the final date of confirmation for the venue is March 6, 2025. The same may apply for the semi-finals too with Abu Dhabi and Sharjah also being considered. India hasn’t sent its team to Pakistan since July 2008 due to tense political relations between the two countries.
This comes after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed confidence that the upcoming Champions Trophy would be held in Pakistan and all teams, including arch-rivals India, would participate in the tournament.
“The Indian team should come. I don’t see them cancel or postpone coming here and we are confident we will host all the teams in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan,” Naqvi said. “The stadiums will also be ready to host the matches on schedule and any remaining work would be completed after the tournament,” he added.
