New event series, ceno2, to launch in London fusing pole dance, art and electronic music – News

A new event series called ceno2 fusing pole dancing, art and electronic music is set to launch at algha’s plantroom, a brand new venue in Hackney Wick.

For the first edition, taking place on October 10, Mexican multidisciplinary artist and movement director Maya Luna has been commissioned to conceptualise and choreograph a 30-minute dance show with Kenyan pole dancer A.T. (known for training FKA twigs and headlining the Blackstage Show at the Clapham Grand).

Through her choreography, Luna sets out to investigate the vulnerability of dance, eventually revealing it to be a powerful and liberating tool.

Titled Hygra, the dance piece will be scored by emerging Ukrainian electronic producer Nastya Vogan, with DJ sets by basic chanel and FYI Robyn either side of the performance.

The event features direction and curation from Tanya Voytko, creative production from Thea Ardeleanu, graphic design by EG, set design by Florence King, and costumes by Rotten Babe.

According to a press release, the overall residency aims to redefine the way pole dancing is perceived in the creative community by giving it the “attention and recognition it deserves as a unique and powerful form of performance.”

By framing the pole as a tool of expression and freedom, ceno2 hopes to celebrate the “artistic and healing potential of this practice”.

Future events in the permanent residency will incorporate live instruments and collaborate with bigger electronic acts.

The event runs from 7:PM to 11:PM. Buy tickets here.
