NATPAC scientist’s post against Minister Ganesh goes viral, faces dept-level probe

Thiruvananthapuram: A departmental investigation has been initiated regarding Subin Babu, a senior scientist at the National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC), following his social media comments about Minister Ganesh Kumar.

In his social media post, Subin remarked that officials were hesitant to question the minister due to concerns over potential backlash. It is believed that Subin was unhappy with Ganesh Kumar criticising the senior officials during a meeting to discuss an order issued by the Transport Commissioner mandating a Child Restraint System (CRS) in cars.

“…The reason no one responded (to minister’s criticism of senior officials) or asked you, ‘Are you a fool?’ was due to fear of reprisal,” an excerpt from the post reads. Subin also expressed discomfort with the minister’s ridicule of senior officials, stating, “None of us are without self-respect. The officials endured your insults out of respect for the office you hold.”

Dr. Samson Mathew, Natpak’s Director, has initiated a probe against Subin Babu. The investigation will be conducted by a committee comprising the Registrar and two scientists.

Preliminary findings indicate that Subin’s comments breached the service rules. After the post drew controversy, he retracted his statement and issued an apology. Subin’s posts on road safety have previously sparked debates.
