Netflix Action Movie The Night Comes for Us Gets Sequel Tease From Director

Horror and action movie director Timo Tjahjanto has teased his plans for a sequel to one of the best martial arts movies on Netflix. And what it will take to get the follow-up made. If you’re an action movie fan and somehow you don’t already know, the movie in question is The Night Comes for Us, and tells the story of a former criminal enforcer who finds himself at odds with the gang he works for: the dreaded Triads.

Taking to social media, Timo Tjahjanto teased that he does have plans to make The Night Comes for Us 2, and while he has offered no further details at present, he does reveal to a fan what it will take to get the action sequel off the ground at Netflix.

“When I get enough studio flicks under my belt so that I can have my carte blanche project at Netflix.”

Written and directed by Timo Tjahjanto, The Night Comes for Us hit Netflix back in 2018. Starring The Raid and Mortal Kombat star Joe Taslim alongside his The Raid co-star Iko Uwais as former friends-turned-enemies, The Night Comes for Us follows Taslim as elite Triad assassin Ito who, after sparing a girl’s life during a massacre, is targeted by an onslaught of murderous gangsters. If that outline doesn’t tempt you, then you may not be as much of an action movie fan as you thought.

The Indonesian action thriller was quickly met with critical acclaim at the time, and now stands at a hugely impressive 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising the stylish violence, action sequences, and magnetic performances from Taslim and Uwais.

Timo Tjahjanto Has Two Big Action Movies on the Way

Getting “studio flicks” under his belt is exactly what Timo Tjahjanto, with the filmmaker helming the upcoming sequel to the Bob Odenkirk-led Nobody. The director recently revealed that Nobody 2 has now wrapped filming, meaning the director now has a Universal Pictures project on his already impressive curriculum vitae. The first Nobody was released back in 2021 and introduces Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk as one of cinema’s most unlikely action heroes. Starting off as the seemingly mild-mannered Hutch Mansell, a break-in at his home unleashes Hutch’s long-simmering rage, triggering his dormant instincts and propelling him on a brutal path that will surface dark secrets and lethal skills.

Violence is her only option.

Plot details for Nobody 2 currently remain unknown, but the sequel has been written once again by John Wick’s Derek Kolstad, with the likes of Connie Nielsen, Christopher Lloyd, Mckenna Grace, Colin Hanks, John Ortiz, and Sharon Stone joining Odenkirk. Nobody 2 is due to hit theaters on August 15, 2025.

Of course, while Nobody 2 may be the project that gets The Night Comes for Us 2 off the ground, it could instead be Timo Tjahjanto’s other upcoming action outing, The Shadow Strays. Set for release on Netflix on October 17, the revenge thriller has already been hailed as one of the best movie’s of the year by those lucky enough to have seen it.
