PM congratulates two Sri Lankans who won prestigious awards in India
Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya congratulated two Sri Lankans, Sonali Wanigabaduge and Aanya Wipulasena, who won the prestigious Laadli South Asia Media Awards held in India.
Sonali Wanigabaduge of Newsfirst and freelance journalist Aanya Wipulasena won the prestigious Laadli South Asia Media Awards for Gender Sensitivity for 2024 in Mumbai.
Amarasuriya congratulated the two journalists on their achievement.
The Laadli Media & Advertising Awards for Gender Sensitivity 2024 was a star-studded event aiming to reshape societal norms through media contributions. Held at Mumbai’s Tata Theatre, the ceremony recognized 42 outstanding works in media, literature, and advertising from India and honored 14 journalists from seven South Asian nations.
In her keynote, UN Under-Secretary General and UNFPA Executive Director emphasized media’s transformative power in challenging stereotypes and promoting gender equality. Echoing her sentiment, Chief Guest Ratna Pathak applauded the awardees for their impactful work in enhancing gender sensitivity across various platforms.
This year’s edition marked the 50th year of UNFPA in India and featured collaborations from varied partners including Population First and South Asian Women in Media. Highlights include awarding Dr. Armaity Desai, Bachi Karkaria, and Vrinda Grover for their lifelong dedication to gender equality, alongside special awards marking UNFPA’s significant milestones in India.
