Telangana: Telangana Requests Rs 4,955 Crore from World Bank to Enhance Health Infrastructure | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: With an aim to strengthen health infrastructure, the state health department has sought 4,955 crore from the World Bank.
A team of World Bank officials recently met senior health authorities, including health minister C Damodar Rajanarsimha, to discuss the proposal, and a powerpoint presentation was made to the team, sources in the state health department said.
According to the proposal, a major chunk of 1,044 crore is earmarked for improving diagnostic services, followed by 921 crore for 109 new trauma centres and 750 crore for TIMS and super-speciality hospital equipment.
“By leveraging external financial support, the health department aims to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure, improve service delivery and address identified critical public health challenges. The proposed components focus on the provision of improved medical services in certain specialised areas, capacity building of human resources, strengthening of health infrastructure and expansion of key programmes aimed at improving public health outcomes,” reads an internal document of the roadmap seen by TOI.
The proposed plan also includes 30-bed de-addiction centres in 35 govt general hospitals, 60 mini hubs under T-Diagnostics, dialysis centres, emergency care simulation and skills labs, organ retrieval and storage centres, cochlear implant centres and integrated quality control labs.
Meanwhile, the Osmania General Hospital (OGH) will get equipment worth 250 crore. This is likely to meet the long-term demand for better infrastructure facilities at the tertiary care centres, which draw huge crowds from several districts and neighbouring states.
Giving a further boost to healthcare infrastructure in the state, the department has planned to set up 10 organ retrieval and storage centres for skin and cornea banks at a cost of 3 crore each. These centres will come up at Sanathnagar, Nizamabad, Khammam, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Adilabad, Warangal, Osmania General Hospital, Gandhi Hospital and Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).
“Telangana currently is at the top position in the country in organ donation and with these facilities, donation is likely to get a further boost,” the source added.
