CDB, World Bank to Observe Eradication of Poverty Day in Jamaica

Representatives from the Caribbean Development Bank, CDB, the World Bank, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin American and the Caribbean are in Jamaica for a symposium on poverty eradication.

The symposium is set for the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, observed annually on October 17.

The CDB says the event is expected to pull some 90 people from nine Caribbean countries.

Among the planned features are presentations from partners on best practices and lessons learnt from implementing projects to reduce poverty in various jurisdictions.

The event is also expected to highlight the voices of beneficiary groups of the Bank’s premier poverty reduction programme – the Basic Needs Trust Fund.

Representatives of Jamaica Social Investment Fund and KoboToolbox – an application heavily used by Caribbean disaster entities to collect data for disaster response – are among the hosting partners for the symposium.

Thursday’s symposium is being billed as the highlight of a weeklong workshop looking at Improved Capacity for Data Collection and Analysis for Enhanced Project Monitoring and Evaluation.

It runs from October 14-18.
