‘The Wild Robot’ Movie Review: Critics Praise Chris Sanders’ Heart-Touching Story on Love and Friendship!

The Wild Robot, a 2024 animated sci-fi survival film directed by Chris Sanders, tells the enchanting story of a robot named Roz, who becomes stranded on a remote island. Based on Peter Brown’s acclaimed 2016 novel, the film features the voices of Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, and Kit Connor, among others. As Roz explores her new surroundings, she forms unexpected bonds with the island’s native animals, particularly an orphaned gosling she cares for. Critics have hailed it as the ‘best-animated film’ for its heartwarming depiction of the connection between a machine and a living creature. Check out review roundup of the flick below. ‘The Wild Robot’ Movie Review: Lupita Nyong’o Delivers Emotional Depth in a Visually Stunning Animated Adventure Movie (Pune Media Exclusive).

HT: “Wholesome and heartfelt, The Wild Robot is the perfect weekend viewing for the family. The movie is the perfect animation vehicle – a fun ride depicting some universal truths about what it means to be human. Roz’s intelligence might be artificial but her emotions make her human.”

Movie Talkies: “The Wild Robot has a good visual appeal as the chase sequences, action scenes, and wide-screen explosion add big-screen value to it. The sound design was good, and so was the cinematography. This film could have easily ended with a sacrifice and a speech about relationships, but he had to give it an extra push of “happy ending,” which I believe was too typical. Nonetheless, his film had won my ratings much before that scene, so it doesn’t really matter now. Go, watch it, experience it, enjoy it, and do not hesitate to drop some tears.” Inside Out 2 Movie Review: Amy Poehler’s Animated Sequel is an Utterly ‘Joy’ful Journey Through Teen Angst and Emotional Evolution (Pune Media Exclusive).

Times Now: “The animated feature’s narrative is further elevated by its stylised, colourful visuals, which instantly draw you into its world. The backgrounds come alive like paintings, and the character designs, especially of Roz, are very fluid. The island also seeps out emotions; in winter, it goes dull and comes alive in the spring. The animation hits all the right beats of wit, slapstick, and wonder. And then the animators turn around and devastate us with a flood of emotions when these characters finally open up their hearts.”

Mashable India: While the first half focuses on giving Roz a personality of its own, the second half explores the world’s reaction to it. One of the best moments in the film comes without anyone addressing it, Roz sacrifices herself in immeasurable ways as a commanded robot would, but also as a mother would. Lupita Nyong’o’s voice acting for Roz sees much of a character arc as well, adding layers and layers of emotions to the inhuman being.”

The Wild Robot will be released in Indian theatres on October 18, 2024.
