Actor Vijay headlined the 2017 Tamil film Mersal, directed by Atlee. The film stars Vijay in triple roles, a father and his two sons. The film has completed seven years since its release, and if you would like to revisit the film, it is available for streaming on ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium app on Google Play Store and App Store.

Mersal marked the second out of the three collaborations of Vijay and Atlee. Both Atlee and Vijay have worked in three films, Bigil, Mersal and Theri. Apart from Vijay, Mersal also stars SJ Suryah, Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Nithya Menen, Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Hareesh Peradi, Kovai Sarala and Sathyan among others. The film revolves around twins who are separated at birth, who go on to become a magician and doctor.

Mersal has screenplay by V Vijayendra Prasad and S Ramana Girivasan, and is produced by Thenandl Studio Limited. Mersal has music by AR Rahman and cinematography by GK Vishnu. Ruben is the editor.

Meanwhile, Vijay will be next working with filmmaker H Vinoth for Thalapathy 69. The film was recently launched and also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Gautham Menon, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, and others. Anirudh Ravichander will be scoring the music.

KVN Productions is backing the film and is slated for October 2025 release. As per the latest buzz, it is expected that Vijay will be playing a former police officer, with the film addressing an important social issue, in the film.
