Amazon India eyes mega sales boost for two-wheelers, ET BrandEquity

(representational image)Amazon India is expecting a 250 per cent year-on-year sales growth in the two-wheeler category, mostly backed by electric scooters, this festive season.

Recently, the online marketplace has seen a 15-20 per cent spike in the sales of two-wheelers in the Bengal market, said K N Srikanth, director, home, kitchen and outdoors, Amazon India.

Amazon India started selling electric scooters from last year while it introduced petrol-fuelled two-wheelers three months ago. The company now expects to introduce the “entire range” of petrol-powered two-wheelers in the next one or two quarters. Currently, two-wheelers of 10 brands are sold here.

Srikanth said: “We introduced the electric vehicle category in the fourth quarter of last year. In the two-wheeler category, we are anticipating a 250 per cent growth year-on-year. It has been a massive growth, led by electric vehicles, but also equally contributed by petrol vehicles. Though the ratio is 75 per cent electric and 25 per cent petrol, this ratio is expected to get normalised over the next one year because petrol vehicle is a fairly recent introduction.”

“We have three warehouses at Uluberia, Raghudevpur and Panchla in Howrah, in addition to over 95 service partners. We have plans to open more warehouses in the state.”
