MSU men’s hockey No. 2, women No. 3 | News, Sports, Jobs

The latest American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division I polls are out and the Minot State University hockey teams each find themselves as one of the very best in the nation.

The second ACHA Division I men’s poll has MSU ranked No. 2 in the country, while the first ACHA Division I women’s poll has the Beavers ranked No. 3 in the country.

The 2nd-ranked MSU men were in action Friday, Oct. 18, and today hosting No. 4-ranked Ohio at the Maysa Arena..

The 3rd-ranked MSU women have the weekend off and return to the ice at the Maysa Arena to host unbeaten and No. 1-ranked Midland on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 26 and 27. Puck drop is at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The MSU men (3-1-0 overall, 3-1-0 MCH) slipped one spot after falling at Jamestown last week. The Beavers received 12 first-place votes in the poll but were leap-frogged by Adrian (Mich.), which had 7 first-place votes. Adrian (2-0-2) picked up 751 points in the poll to the Beavers 750 points.

UNLV was third with 8 first-place votes and 737 points, then Ohio in fourth (690 points) and Jamestown (684 points) was fifth, as both received 3 first-place votes each. Jamestown handed Minot State its first loss this season, a 5-2 setback last week in Jamestown.

The Beavers’ other in-state rival, Mary (6-2-0) is ranked No. 8 in this week’s poll with 569 points.

On the women’s side, the Beavers (4-2-0 overall, 2-2-2 WMCH) find themselves No. 3 in the country behind Midland (6-0-0) and 2nd-ranked Maryville (6-1-0). The Beavers have already played No. 1-ranked Midland twice this season, in Nebraska last month. Minot State hosts the top-ranked Warriors next weekend.

McKendree (8-1-0) and Michigan (1-1-0) rounded out the top five in the women’s poll.

MSU’s in-state rival, Jamestown (1-2-1), is ranked No. 11 in the first poll.
