Unique music shop opens in Shillington | Southern-berks-county

SHILLINGTON, Pa. — Seven years after a popular music shop played its final note on Lancaster Avenue in Shillington, a new music store is opening its doors.

The store is new to Shillington, but the owner has been selling all sorts of instruments for decades.

Todaro’s Music is not your average mom-and-pop music instrument shop.

“I think that it’s a unique blend of instruments. As you can see, we do have instruments from all around the world,” said Joe Todaro.

Sure, there are plenty of guitars.

“I’ve been importing instruments for many, many years, South America, India,” said Todaro. “I work with other importers who work with the African drums.”

But he’s also got instruments that serve as sonic windows into other cultures.

“I think there’s always interest for good authentic instruments,” Todaro said.

Fresh off a Best of Philly award from the Philly Inquirer, Joe Todaro relocated his music shop from Lansdowne in Delaware County to Lancaster Ave. in Shillington, and he’s adjusting to the new space, bringing something beyond music to Berks.

“There are many things here that have magic musically, like the little thumb pianos from Africa called kalimbas,” he said.

Music, magic and a decades-long dream continue.

“Ultimately I decided to pursue my original dream,” Todaro said.

So stop on by to take a musical journey around the world.

“People will come in here and end up purchasing something they weren’t going to purchase or didn’t even know it existed,” Todaro said.
