Tallahassee State College hosted their 13th Annual Tallahassee Science Festival (TSF) on Saturday at Kleman Plaza. The festival showcased exhibits focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), live interactive learning activities, hands-on presentations, and educational programs for all ages, creating notable experiences.

According to the TSC website, this festival is meant for “bringing together institutions and individuals, this unique showcase creates new opportunities to encourage dialogue about new developments in the STEM community.”

TSF showcases institutions and individuals to promote discussion about advancements in the STEM community, featuring exhibits that highlight the contributions of representatives from each organization.

Jessica Jones, TSC Associate Dean of Sciences and Technology and TSF Committee Member believes that this festival will open up a new atmosphere for the younger generation about science. This event gives a moment for enhancing critical thinking skills and broadening their knowledge.

“The whole point is to open up that whole new world for all young people out there who just don’t have that exposure,” Jones said. “And may not know about all the different things you can do in the STEM field.”

Kalynda Holton, TSC Dean of Science and Mathematics and TSF Committee Member said the festival feels like a tradition to the public. The festival impacts the community to network and collaborate with other STEM personalities.

“People look forward to coming every year, even people who may have missed a year,” Holton said. “So I think it’s now ingrained in the community, and that it is a well attended event.”

Riley Poggi, a senior Florida State Exercise Physiology major, says attending this event allows her to strengthen her knowledge in STEM.

“Being able to have this event allows for me to go and gain experiences and do hands-on activities to further my understanding,” Poggi said. “Also, being able to showcase my talents and

possibly win awards for other people to see.”

Aaron Palmer, an alumnus from Florida Polytechnic University, who was at the festival, said

STEM is in everything we do.

“STEM is at the core of finding real solutions to the problems we face every day,” Palmer said. “It’s not just about science and numbers; it’s about creativity, collaboration, and building a better future for everyone.”
