Armenia to Host Eurovision Young Musicians 2026

Armenia will host the Eurovision Young Musicians 2026, bringing together some of Europe’s most talented classical performers aged 12 to 21. The announcement was made by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the Public Television Company of Armenia (AMPTV).

“It is a great honour for us to host Eurovision Young Musicians in Armenia,” said Hovhannes Movsisyan, AMPTV’s Director-General. “Alongside the EBU, we are committed to making Armenia the heart of classical music in 2026.”

Eurovision Young Musicians has been held biennially since 1982, providing a platform for emerging artists to develop their careers. Past winners, including violinist Julian Rachlin, cellist Natalie Clein, and violist Eivind Holtsmark Ringstad, have gone on to gain international recognition. Norway hosted the most recent edition of the competition in 2024.

Armenia has participated in the contest twice. The country made its debut in 2012 with kanun player Narek Kazazyan and returned after a 12-year absence in 2024, represented by oboist Hayk Hekekyan.

“Eurovision Young Musicians is an incredible showcase of talent, creativity, and diversity that unites people through music,” said Jean Philip De Tender, EBU’s Director of Media. “We are pleased to have Armenia hosting the 2026 edition and look forward to working together on this event.”

The most recent competition concluded on August 17, 2024, in Bodø, Norway. Austria’s Leonhard Baumgartner won first place with his performance of Henri Vieuxtemps’ Violin Concerto No. 5 in A minor. Sweden’s Hugo Svedberg placed second with Joseph Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in D Major, and Germany’s Fabian Egger took third for his rendition of Tango Fantasia for flute and orchestra.

The 2024 edition featured 11 participants, with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra providing musical accompaniment. Armenia and Switzerland returned after years of absence, while Croatia withdrew, and Slovenia did not appear in the final list of participants despite earlier plans to compete.

Further details about the 2026 competition will be released by the EBU and AMPTV as preparations progress.
