China science, technology news summary — Oct. 23

BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

HUAWEI OPERATING SYSTEM

Chinese tech giant Huawei on Tuesday released HarmonyOS NEXT, its self-developed operating system built independent of Android architecture.

The launch event in Shenzhen, where the company is based, marks another milestone for Huawei since Washington put it on the “Entity List” in 2019, barring it from doing business with U.S. firms including Google, which provides Android.

SATELLITE LAUNCH

China launched a Long March-2C carrier rocket on Wednesday to place a new group of remote-sensing satellites in space.

The satellites of the Yaogan-43 03 group were launched at 9:09 a.m. (Beijing Time) from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in the southwestern province of Sichuan and entered the preset orbit. They will be mainly used for tests on new technologies for low-orbit constellations.

CREWED SPACESHIP

The combination of the Shenzhou-19 crewed spaceship and a Long March-2F carrier rocket has been transferred to the launch area, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) said on Tuesday.

According to the CMSA, facilities and equipment at the launch site are in good condition, while various pre-launch function checks and joint tests will be carried out as planned.
