The Claude 3.5 Sonnet is the upgraded version of Anthropic’s original AI model Claude AI. The company claimed that this version is the  one of the first ‘frontier AI’ models to offer computer use in public beta. Claude 3.5 Sonnet can also be coded by developers to work with a computer in several ways. As of now the updated model is available in Beta phase in an API version and will soon roll out to the public.

AI to operate computers

The company mentioned that currently Claude 3.5 Sonnet is at an experimental stage. But what benefit do users get by allowing AI to operate computers? In response to this Anthropic explained that allowing AI to directly interact with computers can unlock a lot more potential than the usual computer based AI assistant could do.

According to TechCrunch, “When a developer tasks Claude with using a piece of computer software and gives it the necessary access, Claude looks at screenshots of what’s visible to the user, then counts how many pixels vertically or horizontally it needs to move a cursor in order to click in the correct place.”

We often do a lot of work with our computers. From writing mails to writing codes, all are done on the computer. With the usual AI assistant, we can automate tasks but not at the level as humans are capable of. But Claude 3.5 Sonnet can match human expert level. For example, you can ask the AI model to move your cursor or even copy button clicks, keystrokes, just like a human using a keyboard.
