Jamaica Negotiating With World Bank for Further Natural Disaster Financing

Chief fiscal economist at the Ministry of Finance, Terron Francis, says the ministry is in talks with the World Bank to develop further natural disaster financing for Jamaica. 

Mr Francis says the new provision is a catastrophe differed draw down option that can be used in the event of a natural disaster.

He made the revelation at a town hall meeting looking at Jamaica’s Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management Policy.

The event was put on by the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, ODPEM.

Mr. Francis says this bond would further bolster Jamaica’s recovery effort in the event of a natural disaster.
