A new season of music

A new season of music begins for Chamber Music Kelowna this weekend and they’re excited to welcome a performance from Gryphon Trio.
The three person group featuring violinist Annalee Patipanakoon, cellist Roman Borys and pianist Jamie Barker comes in after the original opening-night act was cancelled due to illness, which would have been the Hermitage Piano Trio.
“We reached out to the Gryphons and, since the Trio was so warmly appreciated in its last concert here in 2021, the members were happy to make last-minute arrangements and fill the emergency gap on behalf of their Hermitage Trio musical colleagues,” said CMK artistic director Dr. Patricia Tao.
CMK says that for over 25 years, the eastern-Canada based Gryphon Trio has earned acclaim for and impressed international audiences with its highly refined, dynamic, and memorable performances.
The Trio’s repertoire ranges from traditional to contemporary, and from European classicism to modern-day multimedia.
This piano trio often tours throughout North America and Europe, performing triple concerti with some of the world’s major symphony orchestras.
“The members are creative innovators with an appetite for discovery and new ideas; they have commissioned over 85 new works, and they frequently collaborate with other artists on projects that push the boundaries of classical music,” said CMK in a written release.
The Gryphon Trio concert opens Chamber Music Kelowna’s 45th season, with four other main stage concerts to come, as well as a special Masters concert next April with the James Ehnes Quartet.
All CMK concerts take place in the Mary Irwin Theatre at the Rotary Centre for the Arts, and begin promptly at 7:30 p.m.
This season opener is set to take place, Saturday, Oct. 26.
