DCU Superman Movie Trailer Gets A Promising Update From James Gunn
DC Studios boss James Gunn offers a new update on what is going on with the first Superman movie trailer ahead of the DC Universe reboot. While Gunn’s DC Universe will begin in December with the Creature Commandos TV show, the first proper film to be coming out of the new continuity will be Superman in 2025. Set to build the foundation for the whole DC Universe, Gunn’s Superman reboot finished filming earlier this fall, and post-production work is currently underway on the film.
Over the weekend, Gunn was asked by a fan on Threads, “Can we know the progress of the trailer? Is it already finished?” in regards to the first Superman trailer that everyone is waiting to see. While he didn’t give a date for when it will be out, Gunn shared a promising progress report on the Superman trailer, as he stated the following:
It’s not. I worked on it this weekend.
What James Gunn’s DC Universe Update Means For The Superman Trailer
While many were expecting to see a Superman trailer at this year’s New York Comic Con, Gunn made it clear that it wouldn’t be happening at the event. However, he revealed, “It won’t be too long until we see a trailer, but it’s also not going to be too soon,” and given that he’s still working on it, time will tell when it is actually going to be ready. But it’s worth taking into account that DC Studios is also working on the marketing strategies that will feature the Superman cast.
As excited as many fans are to see the Superman movie trailer, Gunn and Peter Safran have made it clear that nothing will be rushed when it comes to the DC Universe’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” slate and beyond. In the case of Superman, this is going to be the most important DC Universe film for DC Studios which means that Gunn should take all the time needed to perfect the trailer. Whatever is presented in the first Superman sizzle will be crucial in terms of first impressions of the reboot.
Our Take On James Gunn’s Superman Trailer Update
As the Superman trailer is bound to be finished sooner rather than later, it begs the question of when the world will actually see it released. It wouldn’t be shocking if DC Studios ends 2024 by giving the audience the first Superman footage as they get ready to enter 2025. But for now, everyone will have to wait and see when Gunn actually decides to drop the Superman trailer.
Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman is the first movie in Warner Bros.’ rebooted DC Universe to center around the titular comic book hero. It introduces a new version of the Man of Steel after Henry Cavill’s departure from the role, honoring the character’s roots as “the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way.”
