Greenhouse gas emissions decreased in Europe

By Alimat Aliyeva

In 2023, greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere in the
European Union decreased by 8.3 percent. Such statistics were
published by the European Commission, which noted that this is the
best indicator in the last 10 years. In 2020, the decline was 9.8
percent, coinciding with the period of the coronavirus pandemic,
Azernews reports.

In the United States, one of the largest sources of greenhouse
gas emissions, the reduction was only 1.4 percent. In India, on the
contrary, an increase of 6.1 percent was recorded.

The European Environment Agency reports that greenhouse gas
emissions in the Union have decreased by 37 percent compared to
1990 levels. However, much remains to be done to achieve the 2030
and 2050 goals.
